John McQuaig, CPA
Member, Business Consultant

John grew up in Wenatchee and graduated from Wenatchee high School, Wenatchee Valley College and Western Washington University. He got his MBA from Grand Canyon University. John founded McQuaig and Welk in 1978. He has been extensively involved in serving the North Central Washington business community since then. Prior to establishing McQuaig & Welk he was with Ernst and Ernst (now Ernst and Young) as an auditor. He serves as CEO of McQuaig and Welk, PLLC and directs the consulting practice as a Certified Management Consultant (CMC).

He was a founder and chairman of the board of North Cascades National Bank for the 27 years of its existence. The bank was sold to Glacier Bank in 2013 and John continues as chair of the advisory board of the $450 million division.

John has been one of the prime movers behind the creation and construction of the Stanley Civic Center in Wenatchee including the Auvil Exhibit Hall, Numerica Performing Arts Center and the Riverside Playhouse. He served the organization as President or board member for the 18 years. John’s theater support extends from the board room to the stage.

He is very active in the performing arts including various singing and acting roles in community theater productions. His favorite roles have included Marcellas Washburn in “Music  Man”, Larry in “Angry  Housewives” and the bank chairman in “Mary Poppins” – type casting! He received the Arts Supporter of the Year award for the Wenatchee Valley in 1997.

John recently took up playing the bagpipes. This was a “bucket list” item for him that his family wished he hadn’t necessarily done. He is generally better at bagpipe jokes than playing but he is showing improvement (we think!).

John enjoys many active sports from skiing in the winter to hiking and long-distance cycling in the summer. He likes to lift weights and keep up his aerobic capacity year round. He has also been an active mountain climber having climbed 3 of the 7 summits topping out on Aconcagua at 22,837 feet.

John wrote the book: “Parallel Peaks: Business Insights While Climbing the World’s Highest Mountains”- It is about lessons learned in mountain climbing and how they relate to business. Things like setting your summit and going for it. He has done a presentation based on his mountain climbing stories and the book to many varied audiences all over the world.
John approaches everything he does with enthusiasm and a sense of humor. His passion is helping small business people establish and fulfill their dreams!
